Hi, this is Rayla. I hope you enjoy the new pictures and update.
Welcome to Bethel!! This is your view as you approach our compound.
The Children in the baby class were really eager to help us take pictures; you can see them lined up at the gate. Whenever the camera comes out they are drawn to it. In the picture the children are standing on a driveway that was redone very recently, in fact it was only finished yesterday. The moment we arrived at the children’s home, Dave mentioned that the driveway needed some work and since then he and some of the labourers here have worked nonstop to get it done.
Inside the Bethel home Dad (Jim) and I have been working on getting the five computers in working order for some of the older students to help with school work. One of the computers will be used for storing all the data and information coming from the children’s home and learning center. As you can see in the picture, some of the kids are beginning to hang around with us more (especially if there is a camera nearby). We have enjoyed spending time with the kids. They love the books we have brought for them; the teachers at the school have been taking some over to the classes for the kids.
Every Friday they raise the flag. All 150 students come around the flag pole and some of the older students march and the flag is raised. In the picture they are practising, getting ready for the start of school which is when the flag goes up, it comes down at the end of the school day. They are planning on putting a Canadian flag next to their Kenyan one. It was a privilege to watch, the kids are well organised and obedient, they know exactly what they are supposed to do and they do it. I look forward to spending more time with the kids in my short time here.
